Facebook Pixels and Purchases vs. Leads

I have a question about the 'automated' events that Podia generates to track what's happening with Ads that drive traffic.

A Purchase, Page View, Add to cart, Lead, etc. are predefined and generated by Podia, and Facebook will pick them up and use them in its analytics for what is happening with your ad campaign.

However, I've noted that when I set up what I would call a 'lead magnet', basically in my case, a PDF and what will be an associated audio file, I've used the Course option (so people need to sign in), and set the price as 'Free'.

From what I can tell, Podia is sending the 'Purchase' event for this signup, rather than 'lead', and this is perhaps distorting the analytics and tuning for Facebook campaigns as it doesn't get the feedback signal it needs when you set up a 'Lead campaign' type.

Can we get some commentary on this? Should I be setting up a 'purchase campaign' in Facebook for a free resource on Podia, or do I go ahead and set up a custom event to track as a 'lead'? Is there any way that Podia could be set up to generate the 'lead' event for items that are specified as 'Free'?

Just checking before I go and make adjustments to my campaigns.

All the best

David
